Loony Conspiracy Theories that Turned Out to Be True

Gulf of Tonkin Occurrence

On August 2,1964 several North Vietnamese targets were supposedly open fired on by the USS. Maddox. Unfortunately the events led to the U.S. becoming more involved in the Vietnam War, which meant many more soldiers’ lives were lost as well as Vietnamese. Not to mention thousands of bystanders lost their lives as well.

Later President Johnson’s claim that the North Vietnamese fired first was disproved because it turned out the so-called “targets” Maddox fired upon didn’t really exist. Some feel that the incident may have been done intentionally by the military, but who knows. One thing we know for certain is it’s hard to have a fight with someone if they’re not even there in the first place.

Killing Lincoln

John Wilkes Booth

Many believe that John Wilkes Booth killed President Lincoln on his own inside Ford’s Theater, but some theorists believe he had a little help. When we say little we mean no less than nine other conspirators, to be precise. One of these co-conspirators was said to be Mary Surratt, who was the first women the U.S. government executed. Other conspirators included George Azterodt, who attempted and failed to assassinate Vice President Andrew Johnson. Later he was executed for plotting to kill the Vice President. Then there’s Lew Powell who seriously injured Secretary of State William Seward while attempting to assassinate him. And let’s not forget about David Herold, who supposedly helped Booth escape after he left Ford’s Theater. The entire story of John Wilkes Booth’s plots and his co-conspirators is fascinating and worth learning more about.
