Only 300 Spartan Warriors Fought Against the Persians
Even though the 2006 movie shows 300 Spartan warriors defend Thermopylae against the Persians, that’s not exactly how it went down.
It turns out that they had some help from around 4,000 other people who were there. Plus, in addition, there were at least 1,500 men who stayed until the last stand. The king did order the Spartans to stay and for the other men to get out, but that doesn’t mean the 300 warriors did everyone on their own. Despite what the legend said, there were a lot more than 300 men who defended Thermopylae on that fateful day.
Witch-Burning Only Happened During The Salem Witch Trials
Yes, witch-burning did happen during the Salem witch trials, but that wasn’t the only time it happened. There was supposedly only one woman who was burned as a witch in the U.S., but there wasn’t even a stake involved. A group of people actually locked her in the smokehouse where she died as opposed to her being burned at the stake.
Twenty people in Salem, Massachusetts were convicted of witchcraft, but they weren’t all women and none of them were actually burned at the stake. A man named Giles Corey tragically died when he got pressed beneath heavy stones because he didn’t know whether to say if he was innocent or guilty. Besides that, it’s basically only the trials that happened during that time.
