You heard of the last minute claim for a big Iowa Lottery win in 2011 – the one where a lawyer made the claim for a client but would not identify who purchased the ticket. Lottery officials there denied the claim so the money was never awarded.
What you may not have heard is that the Iowa lottery launched an investigation over it. And now, the person who purchased the ticket is known. He is also in jail because of his purchase.
JRN reports on the solved mystery:
The ticket was purchased on Dec. 23, 2010, at a QuickTrip near Des Moines, by a man in a hooded sweatshirt who also bought two hot dogs.
Last year, lottery officials released a video of the hooded man in an attempt to locate him and solve the mystery of the unclaimed lottery ticket.
The man in the video was recognized by a former co-worker who contacted the authorities and told them that they were looking for 51-year-old Eddie Raymond Tipton, security director for the Multi-State Lottery Association in Iowa.
Oh, there was a bit of detective work involved in gathering the details behind the lottery ticket, which was valid.
