This is not a review. I do not have a set of these finely made augmented reality / virtual reality glasses. Capable of pretty much anything a tablet can do, I still can not wrap my head around wearing a pair of smart glasses of any type. But then I’ve never tried a pair on for a test run either, have you?
When they become available shortly here now in 2015, expect to part with around $1,000 (the military grade costs our government about $5,000 – the maker has been supplying them for the past 6 years).
If you’re curious, or think you can get serious about owning a pair, Aaron Tilley of Forbes will tell you more about the product made by Osterhout Design Group (ODG).
We’ll tell you that the owner, Ralph Osterhout, has even built equipment that’s appeared in at least two James Bond films.
As reported on Forbes:
ODG thinks its glasses fall somewhere in between Google Glass and Oculus’ virtual reality headset. Said ODG vice president Nima Shams: “You can’t watch a movie or browse the Internet on Google Glass. Even developing for it, it’s not standard Android, you have to do pages methodology. And on the other end of the spectrum is Oculus. It’s immersive, you get lost, but you’re not able to see through and it’s not mobile. You need a hefty PC. ODG falls in the middle.”
For the serious techie, indeed.
