A Bullet Train for California

San Francisco to Los Angeles by car, a distance of 381 miles, takes 6 hours and 14 minutes according to Mapquest. But the realization to cut the travel time to under 3 hours, via high-speed rail, begins for real tomorrow, January 6, 2015.

It happens in Fresno, CA with the announced ground-breaking by the California High-Speed Rail Authority. But until the project is completed in 2029, provided there are no unexpected setbacks, enjoy hands-on-the-wheel driving between the cities.

Our source reveals that:

The system will eventually extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

High speed trains are already used elsewhere in the world, but the California ground-breaking marks the first effort at a “hyper speed” solution for the United States.
